Giving: The Humane Side of Business

“No one has ever become poor from giving.”

Anne Frank

As interest rates continue to climb and inflation soars to levels not seen in a generation, those amongst us who struggle from paycheck to paycheck will be impacted the most by the current state of our economy. International instability that shows no sign of subsiding will only exacerbate this situation.  Whether it is a formal recession or a steep downturn in the economy, it means very little to those amongst us who are struggling to feed their families, keep their homes, and survive day to day. Massive increases in fuel prices will directly impact the cost of food and housing – hurting those who can least afford it. Every indicator suggests that this financial “correction” will continue for some time to come.

As a community, we are taught to love and support our neighbours. To lend a hand when people need it most, and to be kind and considerate. But actions speak louder than words.

At INKAS®, we’re not just an employer – we are a family. We care for and support one another in good times and in bad. A closely knit community of friends, neighbours, and colleagues. Whether it be through our non-profit, the Khazanski Foundation, or less formally amongst us, we are proud to be part of an organization that raises significant amounts of funds on an annual basis to improve the lives of those that need it most.

During trying financial times, I recall the difficulties that my family faced before immigrating to Canada. From poverty and hunger, to fear and repression. We have been truly blessed since coming to this country. In our early years in this country, our family was exceptionally fortunate to be welcomed to this community, and we are endlessly grateful for the kindness we received. We remember those times vividly and will never forget that generosity. Now, it is our turn to give.

While the coming months will challenge us all financially and emotionally, some will be hit far harder than others. While we all appreciate the adage that charity begins at home, please continue to save what you can afford for others. It need not be cash – even your time and kindness can lift the hearts of a neighbour.

“There could be no definition of a successful life that does not include service to others.”
