Macrocement® Industries Ltd.
Concrete and Cement, Research and Development
Macrocement® specializes in the research and development of concrete and cement, two of the most widely used building materials in the world, and major contributors to global CO₂ emissions.
Key Research Areas
Macrocement® has made notable advances in the design and application of cement, including the following:
Green cement solution aimed to optimizing required cement amount in concrete mix design
Macrocement® developed and patented the technology of concrete ingredients being forced packed, resulting in a high-performance concrete with the uppermost matrix uniformity and strength with a minimum amount of cement required. In addition to this, the macro-reinforcing system contributed to the creation of concrete with an increased dynamic fracture toughness.
Green cement solution aimed to cut emissions by utilizing alternative raw materials
Macrocement® has developed and patented a method that converts construction, mining, and metallurgical waste into supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). These SCMs can replace up to 40% of traditional cement in concrete production without compromising the concrete’s fresh or hardened properties, resulting in net CO₂ savings of up to 260 kg per tonne of cement produced.
Green cement solution aimed to cut emissions by increasing shelf life of cement
Inevitable deterioration of cement during its storage significantly limits its shelf life, meaning the expired cement is essentially unusable and discarded. This creates substantial waste from the natural resources that were spent and the fuel that was burned to produce cement.
Macrocement® developed and patented ‘Self-Protecting Cement’ that has a shelf life of approximately 4 times longer than ‘Ordinary Portland Cement’.
Green cement solution aimed to restore old de-activated cement
‘Ordinary Portland Cement’ has a limited shelf life, after which it begins to deteriorate and lose its reactive properties. As a result, higher dosages are often required in concrete production, or the expired cement must be discarded altogether.
Macrocement® has developed and patented a technology that restores deactivated, aged cement, enabling the production of standard-quality concrete from previously substandard material.
Green environmental solution aimed to making concrete with oil containing sands
Macrocement® developed cementitious composition that allows making concrete from oil contaminated sands and from abundantly available oil sand tailings. This Macrocement® technology makes possible saving crucial natural sand resources and additionally can be used for solidification of radioactive organic liquids with possibility of making concrete containing up to 40 – 50% such organic liquids by volume
Green environmental solution aimed to reducing cement dusting pollution
Cement dust generated during handling and processing poses a serious environmental challenge and health risk to workers and nearby communities.
Macrocement® has developed and patented a technology for producing granulated and powdered cement in which fine particles are bound to larger cement grains, significantly reducing dust emissions and improving overall safety and sustainability.
